Bookwright time to print4/7/2023 And the presentation of images was, well, limited. While the mini albums were a hit, the generic cover gave no clue as to the contents. I filled them with 48 5×7 prints and 10 pages of inspirational quotes, stories and photo captions. Instead, I purchased a half dozen 5×7-inch, fabric-covered photo albums made by DF Albums, Ltd. And digital printing options were still pretty limited. I was a passionate scrapbooker, but I knew it would be too time-consuming to create a handmade scrapbook for everyone on my list. And I doubt they will reprint because you decide you would rather have Enhance on rather than off - so testing a book both with and without Enhance is a good idea. After spending two weeks in Thailand with my son in 2003, I searched for a creative way to share with our family and friends the special travel memories we brought back. However, I doubt if Blurb will reprint a book due to typos. I had one issue with one book - a blue cast in all black & white images. Of the two different Blurb printers used for my projects, I thought one might be marginally better than the other, but I don't know if that was due to random variation or if that printer consistantly does a little better work. (Get your Christmas books printed EARLY!) if there is an issue due to poor quality printing, Blurb will reprint your order, though that may take some back and forth emails and additional time. So, it's possible Company A may print the test book, but company B may get the order for your production run.ī. ![]() However, if that one is busy, it will go the other facility." " We have multiple print facilities, so usually your order will be printed at the facility closest to you. According to an email from Blurb Customer Support: However, for the purpose of evaluating color reproduction, I'm not sure you can count on the test book. While I might debate how "reasonable" print-on-demand prices are, I agree it is a good idea to print one test copy - proof read it, and proof read it again - before committing to a run of multiple copies. And if you use the Velvia film sim, or if you add color saturation in post, then Blurb's Enhance effect may push your colors into Clown territory. So, in my opinion, if your camera exposures are good, your post processing skills are halfway decent, and if your monitor is approximately correct - then you probably won't benefit from Enhance. But right now, the light is good and I should be out shooting.) (If you like, later, I might be able to photograph images from the two books. But the Enhance effect also increases color saturation quite a bit - too much for my taste, and I like color. The Enhance effect does improve shadow detail underexposed shots of dark skinned subjects do look better enhanced. By 'unfavorable conditions' I mean harsh, equatorial sunlight-and-shade. The images in that book were mostly from scans of 35mm slides taken by my father-in-law under unfavorable conditions, and many were somewhat underexposed. ![]() So, normally, I do not use Blurb's "Enhance" setting.īut I had one book printed both with and without the Enhancement. ![]() If an image looks right on my screen, the Blurb images usually look good. ![]() But in spite of my casual "eyeball calibration" settings, my normal post processing in Lightroom/Photoshop seem to print well for me. My iMac is not hardware calibrated, and I set my brightness about 1 or 2 clicks above the middle. Is it now possible to apply the effect to selected images rather than the whole project? If so, that's a big improvement in the Blurb software. The Blurb software offers a screen preview of the Enhance effect, and it does seem to improve a few images, but it looks over-the-top on others.
